Extract of a Ghost Track
Extract of a Ghost Track
started in Brussels, a city located by a river – the Senne – that is today covered up by a tunnel, and runs underneath the streets, invisible to its inhabitants. Buried underground in the late 19th century, the river disappears just before the main railway station in the south of the city before resurfacing at the other end, toward the gare du Nord, in the outskirts, next to a waste deposit. Rebekka Seubert was interested in the idea of this ever-present flow underneath the city live, streaming past people’s cellars and underneath their streets. Based on the actual course of the Senne, she chose a street located by the river, and rang at local residents’ door. She photographed their cellars, with each picture oriented towards the wall facing the buried river.
Born in 1985 in Frankfurt-am-Main, Rebekka Seubert studies art in Brussels and Hamburg. Lives and work in Hamburg. Her exhibitions include
